RTMC 7th Anniversary weekend
It's been a while since Kavitha and I headed out onto the highway, the last being the Cloud Valley ride to Coorg . Since, this was shaping up to be a wild weekend RTMC ishtyle we decided to ride out one day ahead of the rest of crowd to get some well deserved rest after the last couple of hectic weeks.
Called a few regulars, to check if they were interested in joining in and realized that it would just the two of us and Thunderduck this time around. Packing stretched way too late into the night, and I (self confessed sleep addict) could not wake up in time to the scheduled departure. After a late start, and expecting a lot of traffic, we were pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t much traffic on Hosur Road. We crossed Hosur and stopped for breakfast at highway hotel. The Dosas were great, 1.5 foot diameter ‘Plain dosas’. The Pongal there, well, avoid it.
We kept to the highway, though knowing that there were beautiful back road routes that we could have taken. The reasons being: a) we were by ourselves, I didn’t want to risk a puncture on bad roads and b) we wanted to get to Yercaud and relax for the day.
A couple of stops later we were in Yercaud in time for lunch. We tried to get the rooms that were allocated to us for the weekend, but that was occupied. The room we got was in the same block above the room we were to be in and we took it. The plan was to exchange it with the people who were allocated this one instead of moving the next day. It turned out to be Karthik and Dutta’s room, so we had no issues for the rest of the weekend.
The days were spent roaming around Yercaud, eating and drinking a bit too much, working it off on the pedal boats in the lake and socializing with the RTMC 7th Anniversary crowd. There were quite a few events for those interested and we, Kavitha and I, got into the Lemon and Spoon race. This was meant to be a race where you have a lemon and spoon, but you are riding a motorcycle with a pillion and trying to reach the finish line fastest. All was fine, till the organizers changed the rule after one round, it turned into a slow race. It was tough to ride the ‘Duck slowly with a pillion and 2 big army boxes fixed on either side. So, despite trying to go slowly and gunning it towards the end, we placed 3rd overall due to a few disqualifications. The 3rd place trophy (All made by Karna, RTMC) turned out to be one of the best looking. The awesome 500cc piston with an engraved plaque on it .

We were happy that we didn’t place anything else other than 3rd!
The partying was great; as was the cake (I think) and it went on late into the night. Next morning, we left Yercaud just as Valentino Rossi was catching Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner in the Australian GP, on an interior route through the Shevaroy Hills and Kuppanoor. We got completely drenched in the hills and when we hit the flat ground, the heat was unbearable. We rejoined the Golden Quadrilateral near Krishnagiri and headed home extremely drowsy after a long weekend. Just to add some spice, and kill the boredom of the 6 lane roads, we got off the highway and connected in through Sarjapur Road to Silk Board junction through some lovely back roads.
Some shots from the weekend. All images are shot with a Sony Point and Shoot Camera
