AGV Helmet (Manufactured by MPA)

AGV's lone model in India is not a helmet you would lust for, or even a good looking helmet. It does not provide much in terms of design or neat color options. It does not seem like a great helmet till you wear it in comparison with the helmet I used before this, the Bieffe GP1.

The clincher for the AGV is without fail the visor. The polycarbonate visor,is great and does not disperse light at all compared to the the el-cheapo acrylic visors that we get in India on helmets like the Bieffe and the GP1 (the myth of the availability of the GP 1 polycarbonate Rs.3000/visor continues).

The helmet, luckily for me, came even in the 58 size, while I've had to make do with 60 of most other brands. I had to pick the one with the Blue patterns because that's the only one I got in the size! Speaking of color, these helmets even come in a Rossi replica, so if you do not have 100s of dollars to spend on a Rossi replica from abroad, this is your quickest route to Rossidom!

Wind noise unfortunately like all Indian helmets, is unacceptably high. Wearing ear plugs is the easiest way to cut it out.

Let me get back to the visor becuase the quality difference in the visor is almost magical and had me referring this helmet to atleast 5 other people and in the yearly RTMC anniversary lucky draw, we replaced the GP-1 helmets with two of these. Its also very easy to change the visor, if you're someone who rides with dark ones in the morning and clear ones in the night. Its a quick release, self fixing visor, which makes changing the visor an easy task and takes a few seconds.

The only drawback about the visor? It sells in Bangalore for about Rs.500 per visor. Which is quite steep, when you realise that the GP 1 visor retails for Rs.200. Still, its worth it.

I would recommend this helmet from the current crop of helmets available in India, maybe a close fight with the Vemar.

Update:

I've been using this helmet for over a year now and have noticed that the visor on this helmet has lasted me the longest. It is really the most scratch resistant and tough visor that I've used. I've never been able to use the same visor for more than 6 months, before I had to squint at oncoming headlights or give up and raise the visor in the dark. The only maintenance I do on it is that, if I've left it unused for a few days and it has dust on it, I give it a quick wash with soap and water. The same wash routine after long rides on the highway or routes with lots of insects.
