K. Rajini gets India a podium in the 600cc FIM Asian GP
It was a dream come true for India’s Krishnan Rajini (Red Roosters Racing Team) in the Sidvin Festival of Speed Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship this evening. The 4th round not only helped him accrue valuable points but scored his maiden podium finishing 3rd in the second race of Supersport 600CC at the MMST track at Irungattokottai this evening.
Rajini’s determined efforts proved to be the saving grace for the country as the rider on his debut season credited himself with some valuable points to push himself higher in the ranking for the overall championship with two more rounds to be completed in Zuhai, China later next month. He was placed 18th overall before the Chennai event with 11 points, but has now jumped up the standings to 9th with a tally of 38 points.
Race 1
Rajini, who finished 5th with the riders on the factory Yamahas from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia making most of their chances, showed his skills in abundant measure, particularly in maneuvering the corners which the other drivers could not measure well. Touching highest speed of 224.8 KMPH, Rajini timed 28:49.779 secs, which was 1 min 47 secs (almost a lap) behind the eventual winner, Decha Kraisat of Thailand.

In the second race too Rajini displayed good assessments in this technically difficult track where the corners are flat and not flowing ones as compared to the other riders, who were riding for the MMST track for the first time. Rajini covered the distance in 29:00.374 secs. Polamai, the winner took 28:26.695 secs, while second palced Md. Zambri Baba clocked 28.48.584 secs head of Rajini.
