Coimbatore is all set to host the first round of the National Championship for two wheelers as the 4th edition of the Rolon National Road Racing Championship gets under way with the 1st round scheduled for this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway.
With over 120 riders from various parts of the country in action, the weekend promises to a thriller. The qualifying sessions will be held on Saturday 6th June and main races on Sunday, 7th June.
The championship races will feature two races each in 8 categories and the non championship Honda support races will have two races in the 125 cc and one race in the 150 cc class. The championship has seven classes - two each in the expert and opencategory, one in intermediate and three in the novice category. Experts will compete in the Group B 4 stroke 130 10 165 cc and FIM 600 cc 4 stroke Super Bikes classes.

Being held under the aegis of the FMSCI, the National Championship is promoted by Meco Motorsports Private Limited, Chennai. The National Championship is title sponsored by Rolon and co-sponsored by Amaron, Single-make Honda non championship support races are being sponsored by Honda while the Championship Awards be given to the winners are being sponsored by TVS Motors Ltd.
For aspiring very young riders the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) two wheeler racing commission has lowered the age limit to 13 years for those who wish to take part in the unmodified class (Group D) motorcycles upto 130 cc and mopeds. .This is based on what is in vogue in other Asian countries and to give the youngsters an opportunity to start racing at an early age.
The Championship rounds will be organized by Meco Motor sports & Madras Motor Sports Club. The championship consists of 5 rounds and will be held as per the following schedule.
- Round 1 : Coimbatore : June 6th 7th
- Round 2 : Coimbatore : July 11,12
- Round 3 : Coimbatore : August 22, 23
- Round 4 : Chennai : September 19, 20
- Round 5 : Chennai : November 7,8
