If you are looking for a weekend filled with peace and solitude, Art Bistro – Pegasus Farm on the Yelaval – Hunsur Bypass is the place to go to.

We landed up at the farm on our way to Masinagudi to relax for a bit. The place is within a few 100 mtrs from the Meghalapura village signboards along the way guiding you to the place*1 . (Also see the update )

The place was owned by Johan Benthin and his wife Sigrid Benthin, who now runs the place after Johan passed away. The farm has couple rooms for accommodation in the midst of trees and vegetable gardens. The fact that there is limited accommodation actually makes the place perfect for a peaceful holiday. The place also serves as an excellent pit stop for those traveling towards Mysore or Coorg.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The paintings on the white interiors, all by Mr. Benthin along with the blue-back furniture gives the place a nice serene feel. The farm also has a studio for those who are artistically inclined and canvas, paints, etc are provided. There is a wide array of books and games that one can indulge in, either in one of the several cozy seating areas in the property or in the solitude of the rooms.

The farm has huge trees which keeps the place cool and shaded even during hot days. With gentle breeze blowing, a stroll around the farm will leave you refreshed. As we walked around, we were pleasantly surprised to see three dogs, Gopi, Ivan and Friday, snoozing below a giant Bougainvillea climber.

Abhi, Friday and Ivan. Not too different :)

Friday, the Irish Setter, was the most playful of the lot and never stopped running around and trying get some attention. The other two, Gopi and Ivan, are plump dogs which love sleeping everywhere.

You can expect authentic German cuisine to satiate your taste buds since Mrs. Benthin is from Germany. We were served a delicious meal of Red cabbages and Mashed potatoes along with marinated pork and mutton gravy to finish with Apple cake and Ice cream.

Our short 3-hr stay was well spent and worthwhile. Art Bistro is a quiet retreat for those looking at a quick get away from the hustle and bustle of the city grind.

*1 : One very important fact if you are trying to follow the boards and do not find any which mention Art Bistro, you need to follow bright red boards that read "Bed and Breakfast". Apparently the painter who made these boards goofed up and painted it wrong. Ask around for Sigrid's Place if you need help.

Update:

This place is now also called as The Take A Break Place. But, the fact remains that you will have more luck in finding this place, if you ask for Sigrid's Place.
